The 1960's had hair completely different from any other decade. Hair was voluminous and boxy, as well as short for a pixie cut. The stars of this decade rocked many different looks, but they all looked fabulous. Stars like Brigitte Bardot, Twiggy, Jackie O, Jane Fonda, and many, many more. Down below are some of the 60's most popular hairstyles and how stars wear them today. Enjoy!
1. The Beehive
The beehive is such a bold look that not many can pull it off, but some of the women from the 60's sure could, especially Brigitte Bardot. This look was very popular among common women. The look made it's comeback on Mad Men with Joan Harris (portrayed by Christina Hendricks), her bright red hair makes the look completely modern and fun (much like Ann Margret). I'm not too sure how many people know how to do a beehive, so I inserted a tutorial, which could also work for the 2nd hairstyle.
2. The Bouffant
The bouffant is one of those looks that's completely unforgettable. You may be wondering what's the difference between a bouffant and a beehive? Well, the beehive is big and has no hair down the sides or back, unlike the bouffant which has a smaller bump compared to the beehive, but also has hair down the back and sides. This is one look you don't tend to see much on red carpets, but you may see it on TV shows and/or on models. I've add a couple tutorials in case you're curious on how to do this bold hairstyle.
3. The Jackie O
Jackie O's (or Jackie Kennedy Onassis) hair is one of the most iconic cuts of the 1960's, as well as in hair history. Many women were wearing this hairstyle and even adding the signature pillbox hat. This look has sort of died down, but many still rock a short and curly hairstyle very similar to this look to this day. The beautiful Camilla Belle has updated the look a bit and made it her own.
4. The Pixie Cut
Twiggy was not the only who rocked the pixie cut back in the day, Mia Farrow wore this iconic look as well. This amazing look is still going strong to this very day. Many stars are rocking this look such as the beautiful Emma Watson, Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway, and many more.
5. Voluminous
This isn't technically a hairstyle, but it's how most if not all movie stars had their hair. These looks took a whole bunch of hairspray, curlers, and bobby pins. All of the looks from up above besides the pixie cut, involve a lot of volume, so if you want to do you're hair like that back tease many, many times, unless you don't want to much volume. (But who wants that?) Not too many stars wear their hair this big nowadays, but it's always fun to see the stars who did.
Bonus!
Many of the women would also sport some really cute accessories such as bows, headbands, and sometimes headscarves (as seen up above). As well as the big sunglasses trend, started by first lady Jackie Kennedy. Sometimes you would also see, scarves tied in the back as neck-ties.
